He seemed so engaged! My only recommendation would be to have an actual picture of the sea creature in the book (like the cartoon does) so kids can see what they really look like. The greatest thing about the children’s series Octonauts is that unlike so many other shows for toddlers and preschoolers, all the regular characters are emotionally stable. To take it one step further, there are free creature cards, with a picture and simple facts, you can print out from the Disney junior website! We took these cards to the local aquarium yesterday and searched for the creature on his cards (most aquariums should have the basics: sardines, cuttlefish, hermit crabs, moray eels, manta rays, seahorses, wolf eels, brittle sea star, etc). He loves it and I do, too! He's fascinated and I am also learning a thing or two. Afterwards, I look for a video clip on his iPad and we watch videos of the creature we just read about. My son just turned 4 and we read about 2 creatures from this book each night. Even more important, the cartoon is educational and this book is no exception. The characters are cute and have unique personalities. Ok, the pages may be falling out but this is still a winner. He seemed so engaged! My only recommendation would be to have an actual picture of the sea creature in the book (like the cartoon does) so kids can see what they really look like. Now what will we do when we finally finish this book? I hope there is a new one in the works! I just ordered a few more copies of the old version, to use when we finish up with this one. If they haven't seen the old version, they might not care. Much more passive and not as fun for the kids. The new version (this one) doesn't have any of the 'to do's' that the old one did - and it seems like less pages of stickers. There are also several pages of additional stickers of the creatures themselves and the Octonauts. She learned a ton from it and looked forward to completing each page with the needed stickers. This was the part that my 3 year old loved best and was the main way that she was actively learning when we used this book. The older version has many more stickers and a different set-up - on each 'creature' page, the child seeks out several stickers to add to the page - a small picture of the fish, a sticker for the zone of the sea that the creature is in (sunlight, twilight, midnight) and then the stickers representing the food the creature eats. However - I would highly recommend buying the older version of this (from 2013) if you can find one. They love it so much that this is our second purchase of the Creature Report book.
